Adobe’s Insane Pricing

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Adobe CS5 Master CollectionSo you want to buy Adobe’s CS5 Master Collection do you? Well if you’re American that’ll set you back a cool $2,599USD which isn’t a bad price considering the amount of software in the bundle. Adobe really do have the market cornered, there are plenty of options when it comes to coding, but if you’re looking to design – you really will need at least one of the following Illustrator, Photoshop, Fireworks and/or InDesign.

Should you want to pick up a copy of CS5 Master Collection in the UK then you can expect to pay £2,706.02GBP. Now I know that the pound isn’t particularly strong against the dollar at the moment but I have to say that is completely ridiculous. A quick conversion (using Google’s current exchange rate) of the US price to pounds comes out at £1767.32, which means that UK customers are paying almost £1,000 more than customers in the US. Am I the only one that finds this a little bit unfair?

FreeAgent Review + Discount Code

For the last few years I’ve been logging all incomings and outgoings using a combination of MS Excel and a mac based application called Billable. To begin with it worked great, but over time I got busier and busier and things started slipping. I’d forget to log work, invoice very sporadically and as a result I never really had a grip on my accounts. That’s when a friend recommended FreeAgent to me, so I had a look and signed up for a 30 day free trial. (more…)

Adobe Browserlab – First Impressions

Browser testing, it’s a pain but it has to be done. As a mac user it’s even more painful. I’ve never been comfortable with the idea of installing VMware Fusion and Windows on my Mac, it just doesn’t seem right. (more…)

Upsetting The Apple Cart

Monday, October 19th, 2009

I’ve always been an Apple Mac user, I’ve never used a PC to do any work on in my life. The truth is, I can’t use a PC – I don’t know how to find my way around one of the damn things and I’d always intended to keep it that way, that is, until recently.

Over the past few months I’ve been having all kinds of trouble with my one time sweetheart, my 17″ Macbook Pro. It all started 4-5 weeks ago when my mac was fast approaching it’s 2nd birthday – after a long day at work I put my mac to sleep, tucked it into it’s second skin and made my way home. Now I’m a bit of a workaholic and truth be told, my mac never gets much of a rest. But when I went to wake it up – nothing. I scoured the net, tried every trick I’ve ever learned, but nothing worked. So I took it to an authorised Apple service centre. As I was passing the Mac to them, I heard something loose rattling around inside. Not good. (more…)

Twitter And The Freelancer

Friday, June 12th, 2009

When I first signed up to Twitter, I wasn’t quite sure what I was signing up for. I’d heard countless mentions of it but nothing that really explained what it does. The Twitter site wasn’t doing a particularly good job of explaining things either. But, I like to think of myself as an early adopter, so I signed up and only over time am I starting to learn what it’s all about.

Twitter and the freelancer seems like a perfect fit. As a freelancer you either move around quite a lot or you end up working at home on your own with little outside contact. (more…)
